DJ JWall

  • Music has always been a positive force in DJ J-Wall’s life. The day he heard his first Beatles record, the sounds and sights of his early concerts, and the thrill of buying a set of Technics SL1200 turntables are all memories he savors. His love for classic rock, hip-hop, soul, and all schools of funk has expanded into a quest to seamlessly mix almost every genre as a DJ, often in the same set.

Boston is a rich music town with many unique venues that encourage you to be yourself. With that attitude in mind, J-Wall curates the music program at High Street Place, a lively food hall in the financial district. In that role, he has worked alongside dozens of highly respected DJs and live musicians, many of which have inspired him to elevate his own musical IQ.

A working DJ at heart, J-Wall spins more than 200 dates a year, including regular nights at the Middlesex Lounge, Good Life, A4cade, Alibi Lounge, The Liberty Hotel, and a handful of breweries in the New England region. He has DJed parties at legendary clubs such as The Paradise Rock Club, The Sinclair, Royale, and The Wood Tavern (Miami). He’s also in high-demand for corporate events, outdoor festivals, and private parties: including the Jameson Bartenders Ball, Boston Magazine’s BestFest, the Thirst Boston Blender Bender, The Boston Marathon Expo, The Taste of WGBH Food & Wine Fest, BMC’s Catwalk for a Cure, and Harpoon Brewery’s major festivals.

The way people react to music is always evolving, and that’s what motivates DJ J-Wall to keep digging for that perfect music-driven experience.

His projects are as diverse as his imagination.

His acclaimed trio Man On Land explores contemporary improvisation with emotional clarity and depth. His 23-piece jazz-orchestra song cycle Household Items—based on found texts—earned presentations at Harvard University and a feature on NPR for its inventive storytelling. With Schoolyard Sessions, Brian brought together 15 Boston artists and five different ensembles, creating an ambitious collaborative snapshot of a thriving musical community. From solo piano to complex large ensembles, he writes with a voice that is unmistakably his own.

Brian’s compositions have been commissioned by organizations across the country, including the American Composers Orchestra, which tapped him to bridge the worlds of jazz and symphonic writing through his piece Dreamscapes.Additional commissions from the Longy School of Music and composer-led ensembles reflect his reputation as an adventurous, detail-minded writer.

As a performer, Brian has become a staple across Boston’s venues—essentially playing everywhere jazz is presented (and many places where it usually isn’t). His music has reached audiences at the Panama JazzFest, Lima Jazz Festival, the American Pianists Association’s Cole Porter Fellowship, and stages across Korea and New England. He’s toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, performed with global stars Il Divo and Andrea Bocelli, and shared stages with jazz icons including Jerry Bergonzi, Ran Blake, Allan Chase, and Jason Palmer.
